Coaching Courses

Abilita coaching is tailored according to individual needs as identified in the Abilita Assessment.

Participants learn biopsychosocial strategies to manage pain, disability or distress. Thereby reducing the impact of the injury/illness in their lives enabling them to achieve their best functional capacity and to develop confidence to safely remain in, or return to work, and to attain valued home and community goals.

Biopsychosocial strategies include knowledge about the body processes that occur in pain and distress,  actions to influence those processes including managing thoughts and feelings, managing sleep, nutritional tips; strategies to increase levels of activity and involvement including activity planning and pacing, problem solving, communication options, goal setting, defining work values and much, much more.

Rehabilitation Consultants use Abilita coaching manuals to deliver standardised content, select specific topics, and facilitate quick learning through practical activities (based on the principles of Contextual Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Adult Learning).

Coaching is delivered as either individual courses (usually 4 to 8 sessions) or small group courses, with coaching integrated into the rehabilitation or RTW plan.

Abilita provides coaching manuals and participant workbooks appropriate for people with either physical pain and disability or those experiencing psychological injury or illness.

Group coaching achieves quicker and stronger learning by harnessing the power of group dynamics.  The Abilita Restoration Course is our group course for people experiencing physical pain and disability with or without psychological distress, it is run on 7 half days over a 6 week period.

The Wellbeing Program is for people with psychological injury or illness and may include an individual coaching program, or a group course run on 5 half days over a 4 week period.

Abilita coaching provides participants with the knowledge, skills and confidence to optimise their participation in home, work and community activities. Abilita data shows a critical link between change in ARI score and return to work outcomes
