Karen - 50 years, sustained a shoulder injury at work

• Unskilled, physical duties
• Left shoulder – Rotator Cuff injury
• 7 weeks post injury, no RTW
• Medically unfit for work

Karen completed the Abilita Initial Assessment and the Initial Report was produced.

The Initial report provided the Rehab Consultant and Case Manager an understanding of Karen’s response to the injury, the impact of it in her life and the information and skills that would assist Karen to achieve improved coping and pain management strategies.

Karen’s Rehab Consultant developed a coaching course tailored to her needs using the Initial Report and the Abilita Coaching manuals. After 5 individual coaching sessions;

Karen enjoyed the coaching sessions, put the strategies into practice at home, and returned to work part-time during the coaching period. At Impact assessment she was confident in her capacity to resume usual hours very soon. She continued to increase to almost full hours at follow-up 3 months later.
